Annual General Meeting Update
The UMSC AGM was held on
Friday November 12, 2004.
Over 80 UMSC members attended as well as YRSA representatives Tony Casole and
Bill Condy. The President, Robert Ortali, reviewed the club's achievements and
accomplishments during 2004 and outlined the plans for 2005. There were
several other reviews by the Financial Auditor - Dan Maggiori, VP Finance -
Manjit Sidhu , Competitive VP - George Babiolakis and Recreational VP -
Richard Herold.

Striker Called Up By Canadian
National U-19 Team!
The Unionville-Milliken Soccer Club is
proud to announce that a member
of the CGSL Championship winning
under 17 strikers team has been called
up onto the Canadian Women’s national under 19 squad.
Vonya Beckles (click to view OSA player profile), who recently
represented the Canadian Girls under
15 team in 3 recent internationals against Germany, has now made the
step up to the older more prestigious squad.
This is a tremendous achievement and the club is extremely proud of her.
The Board of Directors, Coaches and players wish Vonya every
success for the future. She is a wonderful example for all our young
players on what you can achieve with hard work and determination. |

UMSC U-15 Girls Win CGSL Cup!
Congratulations to the UMSC U-15 Girls
CGSL team for winning the 2004 CGSL Cup. The Strikers defeated
Newmarket 3-2 on penalty shots to clinch the cup with penalty goals from
Lisa Dennill, Nadia Morra and Kathleen Mackenzie and outstanding goal
keeping by Lisa Pizzamenti. The Strikers ended their regular season with
14 wins and 2 ties and will play in the premier division next season. Congratulations to the players, coaches and parents for a job
well done! |

U-12 Boys Win Grape & Wine Tournament!
Congratulations to the UMSC U-12A Boys team for
winning the Grape & Wine Tournament in St Catherines for the 2nd year
running. The Strikers went undefeated in the opening round scoring 25
goals for and 2 against in the three games. They went on to defeat St.
Catherines Concord 3-0 in the semi-finals and then completed an
exceptional game defeating Brampton East Chiefs 5-2 in the
finals.
Congratulations to the players, coaches and parents for a job
well done! |

U-10 Boys Win YRSL Cup!
Congratulations to the UMSC U-10 Boys
team for winning the YRSL Cup.
The Strikers defeated Woodbridge East 4-0 in the Quarter Finals and
Vaughan United 4-0 in the Semi Finals. The Strikers clinched the
Cup with a 1-0 win over the Richmond Hill Raiders in the second
overtime. Congratulations to the players, coaches Kevin Kerr, Rex
Christopher and Donovan Brome, manager Bill Bachra and the parents. Well done boys! |

U-11 Boys Win Henderson Tournament!
Congratulations to the UMSC U-11A Boys
team for winning the
John Henderson Tournament hosted by the London United Soccer Club.
The Strikers defeated Gr. London Menace 4-0, Sarnia Fury 7-2 and
lost to Spartacus SC 3-0 in the preliminary round. The Strikers then defeated
London United 2-0 in the Semi-Final, and with a display of great
skills and determination, clinched the cup by defeating Spartacus SC
6-3 in an exciting Final game. Congratulations to the players, coaches, managers and the parents. Well done boys! |

2004 All Star/Select Tournament was held on
August 28-29, 2004. Special thanks to the organizing committee and the many volunteers and organizations for making
this tournament a successful event.

UMSC Teams Win the Thornhill
Challenge Cup!
Congratulations to the UMSC U-15 Girls
CGSL team for winning the 2004 Thornhill Challenge Cup. The Strikers defeated
Barrie, a premier team, 2-0 in the semis and Aurora, another
premier team, 3-2 on penalty kicks in the championship game after the
game was tied 3-3 with regular game goals from Kimberly Beckles (2) and
Lisa Dennill and penalty goals from Melissa Corso, Kimberly Beckles and
Kathleen Mackenzie. The team goalie, Lisa Pizzamenti, was nominated the finals
MVP .
Well done girls!
Congratulations also to the UMSC U-12B Boys CSL team for winning the
2004 Thornhill Challenge Cup. The Strikers defeated Woodbridge West from the
premier division on penalty kicks in the championship game. Well done boys!
Congratulations also to the UMSC U-18B Girls
CGSL team for winning the 2004 Thornhill Challenge Cup. The Strikers defeated
Pickering 2-0, Thornhill 1-0 and tied Vaughan 0-0 in the round robin. The
Strikers then defeated Cattaraqui 2-0 in the semis and clinched the cup by
defeating Newmarket, a premier team, 1-0 in the final game.

UMSC Girls Shine at the Nationals!
Congratulations to Ashley Rodrigues and Vonya Beckles from the
UMSC U17 Girls (CGSL) on helping Team Ontario win the Gold medal at this
year's Provincial National Championships in Prince Albert, Sask.
Further congratulations go out to Vonya for being invited to Team
Canada's National Training Camp in BC, Aug 26th - Sept 6th. The UMSC, coaches,
players and supporters congratulate you both on your achievements |

U-10 Boys Win Brossard Tournament!
The U-10 Boys won the Challenge
Brossard Tournament for the 2nd year in a row in Montreal last weekend.
The Strikers defeated Chomedey Titans 4-0, Brossard A 5-1 and Gloucester
Hornets Gold 6-0 in the preliminary round. The Strikers then defeated
St-Hubert A 4-2 in the Semi-Final and clinched the cup with a convincing 6-0
win over Hudson St-Lazare Hawks in the Final game.

Kerr, managers and the parents. Well done boys! |

Competitive Teams Financial
Reporting
A meeting was held on July
23rd to discuss the Rep Teams Financial Reporting. At this meeting, a
presentation (click to view) was made by the
UMSC VP Finance, Manjit Sidhu, which details the Rep Teams Financial Reporting
requirements. Also, a template has been developed to assist the Rep Teams in
submitting their reports and is available for download from the
competitive page under the resources tab.
It is important to note that all Competitive Teams are to submit their
Financial Reporting (using the new Template) to the
office by email by no later than August
15th. Also, all Rep Teams must settle their outstanding balances with the
club (call office to get details) before August 15th. |

UMSC Teams Participate in the
Schwan's USA Cup
2 UMSC Rep teams travelled to Blaine, Minnesota to
participate in the Schwan’s USA Cup last week. Our U-16 girls team
coached by George Babiolakis and U-12 boys team coached by Charles
Grant represented our Club admirably. The U-16 team demonstrated resilience
and gradually played with increasing confidence only to lose in the
quarter finals by the way of penalty kicks. The U-12 team played hard
throughout with skill and eventually lost a heartbreaker in the semi finals. Congratulations to the players, coaches, managers and the
parents that made the trip and soccer experience a memorable one. |

Select Teams Participate in the West
Rouge Challenge
4 of our Academy program teams, Boys U-8, U-9 and U-10,
Girls U-10, along with our YRSL U-16 boys participated in the West
Rouge Challenge Tournament over the past weekend. All the teams represented
the Club and themselves admirably. Two of the teams, the Boys U-10 and the
YRSL Boys U-16 battled all the way to the finals only to come up a little
short. Congratulations to all involved, players, coaches, managers and parent.

2004 York Region Invitational Tournament Update
With
177 teams participating and the weather gods smiling upon us, the
2004 York Region Invitational Soccer Classic Tournament was held on
May 29-30, 2004 and co-hosted by the Unionville Milliken SC and the
Newmarket SC. Special thanks to the organizing committee from Newmarket SC and
Unionville Milliken SC and the many volunteers and organizations for making
this 1st joint tournament a successful and a memorable event.

House League Coaches Clinic
A H/L Coaches Clinic will
be held on Friday June 25th at the Milliken HS from 7:00PM to 9:00PM. All
House League Coaches are requested to attend this clinic as Sam Medeiros, our
Technical Director, will be handing out player evaluation sheets to be
completed by the Coaches for all Players and returned to Sam by the end of the
season. |

Fundraising Golf Tournament
The first Annual Golf Tournament in
support of our Competitive programs was held on Saturday
May 15th at the Angus Glen
Golf Course and was a great success. Many thanks to all the volunteers,
participants and sponsors for supporting this tournament.
Special thanks to Larry Ketchabaw and the organising committee for all
their hard work and to Angus Glen Golf Club for their generous support
and for hosting this event. |

Congratulations to Evan
Kalentzis from the UMSC U12A boys team for being selected to represent
Canada at this year's Danone Cup tournament to be played in France. Evan was
one of the five players selected from Ontario and will be the goalkeeper for
the team. Good Luck Evan! |

U-14 Girls Win Indoor Challenge Cup
The UMSC Girls U14 Strikers B Team have won the Richmond
Hill Indoor
Challenge League Cup Playoff. After winning a semi-final against the
Richmond Hill Raiders team 3 - 1 on penalty kicks our girls went on to
defeat a tough El Salvador team in an exciting 1 - 0 win to claim victory
and the championship.
This marks two years in a row that a UMSC U14 Girls have won this competition.

U-12A Boys Win March Break
Tournament
It was an exciting and an
outstanding day for the Unionville Strikers defeating North Mississauga
Panthers 1-0, Glen Shields Sun Devils 'A' 1-0, Woodbridge Strikers East 1-0,
ending the group play with a 5-0 win over Bracebridge Storm. The boys then
proceeded to the semi finals and defeated Greater London on penalty kicks,
setting up an exciting final with Brampton East Chiefs, which once again won
on penalty kicks to claim the championship.

U-16 Girls Reach Ontario Indoor
Cup Final
For the second time in
three years, the UMSC Strikers fought their way to the Ontario Indoor Cup
Championship game at the Soccer Centre, in Vaughan. After qualifying by
defeating the North Mississauga Panthers 2-0, the Woodbridge Strikers 1-0 and
the Richmond Hill Raiders 2-1 in a preliminary round, the Strikers
advanced to the semi-finals, after dropping a decision to the Kanata Rovers in
a 3-2 setback, by defeating the Bracebridge Storm 3-0, followed by a win
against the Sudbury Panhellenic Strikers 2-0. In the semi-finals, the Strikers
defeated the Vaughan Azzurri 88’s in a shootout (2-0) after the game ended in
a 0-0 draw. The Strikers went on to face the Thunder Bay Lakehead Express in
the finals, for their first ever meeting. After a scoreless first half, the
Strikers scored first but Thunder Bay responded with two goals of their own
within a span of one minute, to take the Cup by a score of 2-1.

U-17 Girls Shine at the Orange
Classic
The UMSC U-17A Girls had a
very good showing at the
Orange Classic Tournament over the holidays.
The team finished 3rd in this prestigious event, eventually losing to the
champions, Herndon Heat of Northern Virginia, in the semis. Team results were:
